Software R&D Dept. #8 (第八ソフト研究開発部) was a video game research and development division within Sega and successor to Sega CS3. The department operated similarly to CS3, just with a new name[3][4]. The department had a motto, "Works with dreams" (夢のある作品り), sometimes shortened to just "Dreams"[5], likely based on their past work NiGHTS Into Dreams.

Like CS3, it is thought all of R&D's products were sold under Sonic Team branding. The group only existed for eleven months before being spun off into an official Sonic Team company.
