The Fourth Research & Development Department (第四研究開発部) was the short-lived fourth department of Sega Interactive.[1] Little is known about its existence, however it appears to have been formed around February 2019 at the same time as Interactive's move to the Sumitomo Fudosan Osaki Garden Tower offices that also created Sega Interactive R&D5 and R&D6, and was previously most likely the "Mobile Interactive Development" department of Sega Interactive R&D1.[2]

During its known period of existence, it would have continued titles associated with the former mobile department of R&D1. As its most prominent member was chief director Jun Matsunaga,[3][4][5] its biggest release remained Chain Chronicle.[1] Kenji Arai, previously producer of the Initial D games, was also an apparent member as early as February 2019, having come from R&D3 where he had produced the Performai series titles (Maimai, Chunithm and Ongeki).[6]

It became a department under the fifth division of the new Sega Corporation in 2020, following the merger of Sega Interactive into the former Sega Games.
