Career
Hisaki Nimiya joined Sega in April 1988, primarily undertaking English co-ordination research and development.[1] His first notable contribution was Columns design features; following this, he became an AM3 planning section manager. Nimiya was significant in the creation of titles such as Dennou Senki Net Merc, where English communication with developers from Virtuality was key.[2]
English co-ordination duties carried out by Nimiya at Sega included script editing, in-house research of ongoing trends and preferences in American games, and communication with overseas sound collaborators on titles like Sonic the Hedgehog 3. His voice can additionally be heard in several of the company's late 1990s arcade titles, beginning with Manx TT Super Bike. Some of his most senior-level work was seen in 1998's Dirt Devils, where he is credited with General Game Design. He also served as Michael Jackson's translator during the artist's work on the soundtrack to Sonic the Hedgehog 3. According to Nimiya, his experience working with such a recognizable celebrity gained him the confidence to work with anyone, and helped him realize the importance of being direct and professional with those he works with.[3]
Nimiya's last involvement with Sega was for Wild Riders during 2001, shortly after which he left the company. He has since worked as a freelance translator.[1]
