3D OutRun (3D アウトラン), not to be confused with OutRun 3D, is an updated version of OutRun released for the Nintendo 3DS as part of M2's 3D Classics range.
Contents
Gameplay
3D OutRun remasters the game to run at 60 frames per second, which is twice the speed of the arcade version, and expands the screen ratio to widescreen. The original three songs are available, along with two new songs, Cruising Line and Camino a Mi Amor. A stage select and other extras have been added to the game.
Tune-Up
The first time the player reaches an end goal, they will unlock Tune-Up functionality for subsequent games. These are special customizations that improve the car's performance and make the game easier. The player can choose which parts they want to use out of the ones they have unlocked while the game is in Attract Mode. In order to unlock every part, the player must reach four of the five end goals.
The unlockable Tune-Ups are, as follows:
- Steering Wheel: Makes gliding around corners easier.
- Bumpers: Allows the car to recover from collisions more quickly.
- Engine: Increases the car's top speed.
- Tires: Prevents the car from losing speed when going off-road.
Arcade Mode
When all five end goals have been reached, the player will unlock "Arcade Mode", which restores the game to its original form, complete with the original 30fps frame rate. Tune-Ups are not available for Arcade Mode, nor can the new songs be selected.
