Software R&D Dept. #4 (第四ソフト研究開発部) was a video game research and development division within Sega and successor to Sega AM11[3].
R&D #4 only existed for eleven months before becoming Amusement Vision. The department operated similarly to AM11, just with a new name, and thus contained many of the same notable staff, such as manager Toshihiro Nagoshi (of Daytona USA fame), Satoshi Mifune (of Virtua Striker fame and who directed all titles released under the R&D 4 name) and Tetsuya Kaku (of Virtua Fighter 3 fame)[4].
