This teeny-tiny article needs some work. You can help us by expanding it.
Software R&D Dept. #2 (第二ソフト研究開発部) was a short-lived division of Sega. Essentially a continuation of Sega AM2, the "AM" name was dropped when the AM (amusement) and CS (consumer) R&D divisions were merged. Software R&D #2 kept its number and most of its staff, being largely unchanged during this period (and would still trade as AM2, complete with (albeit slightly modified) palmtree logo).
Still under management from Yu Suzuki, the department's most recent success as AM2 included F355 Challenge, and it continued its direction of developing realistic games such as Outtrigger and Shenmue[2]. Although Shenmue's title screen copyright was updated to reflect CRI's then ownership of AM2, pre-release media continously listed R&D Dept. #2 as developer and the game's credits still name several people as belonging to R&D Dept. #2, as well as mention the support of former AM2 members from R&D Dept. #4[3].
