Sega Mechatro Kenkyuu Kaihatsubu (セガメカトロ研究開発部), or Mechatro R&D Department was a research and development department of Sega, created in 1999 as a replacement for Sega AM4 and Sega AM6[1]. The name is a portmanteau of "mechanics" and "electronics"[2].
Like its predecessors, Mechatro produced the physical equipment used in arcade games (e.g. cabinets), though was largely left uncredited for its work.
It continued it's role as Product R&D in October of 2009.
