|Specifically programmed for compatibility with the [[HeartBeat Catalyst]]. When dumped, the game's revision was not commonly known, and it was not marked as being from an original or revised cartridge; while the ROM header's build date indicates it's likely the 1.0 release, its version cannot be currently verified, as there is no guarantee the header was updated when the game was revised. Regardless of which was actually dumped, one version remains undumped.

Revision as of 02:16, 26 August 2023

Note: This list is vastly incomplete/imperfect. While much of the information is out there, it hasn't been collected. If you see something wrong or missing, please feel free to add it here, though if it isn't easily confirmable, please provide some sort of proof. Thanks.

ROMs do not last forever — specialized hardware used on some cartridges may last even less time. There is an active community of people interested in maintaining data about dumped ROMs to ensure games are not lost forever. However, some releases are rare. making it hard to track down and dump the ROM (Sansan was this way for a long time); in some cases, this happens to particular revisions of games. Not all dumps are good dumps — overdumping (when more is dumped than the EEPROM actually has and there is wraparound — which could probably have other errors) or bad dumping (when something goes wrong and the data is not bit perfect) can also happen. Finally, homebrew developers are actively looking out to ensure piracy of their games do not happen, and consequently those games also remain undumped, as they have fallen for the completely baseless idea that any proof that a game is dumpable will always, immediately lead to mass piracy that knocks all game sales down to absolute 0; much to everyone's extreme misfortune, they will both actively target ROM dump groups and preservation groups and use hardware mechanisms that are known to guarantee low data retention (for instance, CPLDs that are only known to last ~10 years).

Unspecified Console

All arcade games on this page except "JUEGO TRUCO CLEMENTE Copyright 1990" (dumped and not on Sega hardware (but rather on modified Pac-Man board))

Arcade

Note: there are more undumped NAOMI games than dumped, so those will not be listed here for the time being. They will be added eventually. Incorrectly dumped NAOMI games will be listed here.

Sega System 16

Board Game Status Description
Pre-System 16 arcade hardware Dump Matsumoto "317-0011a.mcu" (protection MCU) undumped not sure which chip this is; this filename is from MAME source
System 16B Charon Undumped

Other Boards

Board Game Status Description
early Namco hardware Gee Bee Sega version undumped assuming they modified it from the Gremlin version at all
Galaxian hardware Jump Bug Sega version undumped (a bootleg of it has been dumped)
Sega G80 Raster 005 "6331.sound-u8" ("missing sound PROM!") bad dumped see MAME source
Pig Newton version A "cpu.u25" (loaded to beginning of CPU address space; presumably first 2KB of main CPU code) bad dumped; "1904a.bg" and "1905a.bg" (first set of graphics ROMs) bad dumped; "1906a.bg", "1907a.bg", and "1908a.bg" (second set of graphics ROMs) undumped MAME source says at the moment the set just copies the second set of background ROMs from the version C set
Pig Newton version C "cpu.u25" (loaded to beginning of CPU address space; presumably first 2KB of main CPU code) bad dumped
Space Odyssey version 2 "spod946a.prom-u6" (2KB loaded into the main CPU address space at 3000h) bad dump

Sega Model 2B CRX Dynamite Baseball Undumped

Mega Drive

Note: unlicensed games are not listed here because there are too many to keep track of. They will be re-added once we (probably I, andlabs) can wade through it all one day when I'm not distracted by thing #436256752573.
Note the contents of this list are based on the no-intro ROM set. When removing or adding an entry from this list due to dump, you may be asked where it has been found. Please leave a note and proof in the edit summary. Furthermore, this list is vastly incomplete, as we still do not have a clear idea as to the nature of Korean, mainland Asian, and Brazilian releases (and the use of (World) by ROM sets makes this more confusing); the unlicensed games on this list might also only represent a small portion of the total.
Game Status Description
Sega Channel program US dumped, all other regions undumped
XBAND program, all regions Undumped
2 in 1: Psychic Pinball and Micro Machines Undumped
Advanced Busterhawk Gleylancer Japan dumped, Korea undumped
Advanced Daisenryaku: Deutsch Dengeki Sakusen "Rev A" dumped, "Rev 0" undumped Revision names from no-intro's undumped list. "Rev A" md5sum: d1c8b8474a9c47c5a2457b9549dee728.
Andre Agassi Tennis US/EU dumped, Brazil undumped
ATP Tour US/EU dumped, Australia undumped
Australian Rugby League EU dumped, Australia undumped
BattleStorm Undumped Unreleased game for the equally-unreleased Teleplay System modem. Reportedly complete and ready for manufacturing, likely has NES and SNES cartridge counterparts (reportedly with working cross-platform multiplayer), and may also be compatible with the Edge 16.[1]
Bloodshot EU dumped, Germany (Battle Frenzy) and Australia undumped
Bubba'n'Stix US/EU dumped, Australia undumped
Build-A-Better Dinosaur Undumped Unreleased game for the equally-unreleased Teleplay System modem. May have NES and SNES cartridge counterparts (reportedly with working cross-platform multiplayer), and may also be compatible with the Edge 16.[2]
Cannon Fodder EU dumped, Australia undumped
Captain Planet and the Planeteers US/EU dumped, Japan and Australia undumped The JP version might not actually exist — it isn't in the official release list, and there's no info on a possible unlicensed release. The Australian version does exist.
Clay Fighter US/EU dumped, Australia undumped
Columns Sega Game Toshokan version Undumped, but probably same from retail All Game Toshokan ROMs have the same base code from the Game Toshokan cartridge itself, however Columns also received a retail release in Japan. If every ROM version of Columns in the various sources we got other Game Toshokan ROMs from are found to be identical to the retail one but the real Game Toshokan one is different...
Daffy Duck in Hollywood EU dumped, Australia undumped
The Death and Return of Superman US dumped, EU undumped
DEcapAttack US/EU dumped, Korea undumped

Side Pocket Dumped — but see description The list indicates that there is a mismatch between the checksums in collector Xacrow's dump and in Cowering's GoodGen set for both the US and Japan dumps. The md5sum of the ROMs in no-intro's set are 213899f86e17e95f41498c0b54d702b0 (Japan)/469e1360eb70879b1039a686be9dfc3a (US), so this may have been resolved. Investigation needed. EU is clear.

Furthermore, the following are on no-intro's undumped list, but the ROMs they have are marked as for more regions than the list indicates, so it is possible the undumped ROMs were dumped and found to be identical to the already dumped ones, unless there is evidence of difference — this requires some investigation. The list is outdated so this could have been investigated already (outdated entries on their list that can be proven easily from the current datfiles are already omitted from this page).
