In the 70s Ireland was one of the countries where Sega imported its game machines.[1]

In Ireland, Sega games were released at similar time as in UK, due to a free trade area and many retailers operated in both countries. From that reasone Sega Master System and Sega Mega Drive were very popular here[2] and the biggest interest in Sega and Nintendo consoles in Ireland was in 1993[3]. In 1996, TCI's technology group got the rights to distribute Sega Channel in this region. Cablelink said that they were going to launch the Sega Channel in October 1996[4] but it's not currently known if the Sega Channel was actually launched there.

Like in UK, Dreamcast was distributed here from 1999 by Gem Distribution[5], which in 2001 was replaced by Big Ben Interactive and in 2003 again Sega went back to Gem Distribution.[6]Dreamcast Internet was available here[7] from 2000.

In January 2002, Sega appointed Crown Direct and Leon Deith Sales as arcade distributors[8].
