History of Sega in Mexico |

Official Sega distributor(s): DISAM S.A. de C.V.(1991-1995),Sega México(200x-present) |
The video game industry in Mexico is largely unknown although it began in the mid-1970's and has led to companies like ELPRO, NESA with NESA pong hand of Mr. Morris Behar who gave versions Tropicalized in that country pong Atari 1972 or Evoga who has collaborated with the development of SNK Neo Geo titles. However if it is known that as in South America piracy of video games was very generous with famiclones especially in the early 90's.
Disama S.A. de C.V.
Interestingly not so with Sega Mega Drive it was not very popular as if I happened in South America, which at that time was dominated by Nintendo in that country with Super Nintendo that was very popular among Mexicans gamers by receiving distribution Gamela SA which also received support from the magazine Club Nintendo by Gus Rodriguez. Yet he received distribution of SEGA consoles by the company DISAM S.A. de C.V. which presumably would be SEGA Mexico in that country obviously being part of the North American region consoles Sega Mega Drive were known as "Genesis" and also the Master System also both NTSC format but due to stiff competition Nintendo in that country the distributor went bankrupt in 1995.The company also released Sega Mega CD and Sega 32X.
Still on the Sega Genesis Mexicans had titles exclusive as Chavez II that included a Spanish translation that was actually the Mexican version of Boxing Legends of the Ring something strange because Chavez II was conducted by the magazine Club Nintendo Mexico who Chavez conducted for Super Nintendo case of competition was the publisher SEGA.
