In the late 1980s, the Sega Master System was available from local distributors.

The premiere of Sega Mega Drive in Malaysia took place in January 1990.[1] Unfortunately, there were many people who had a problem with the identification of who distributes original products. Some thought that Mario Family Games is Sega sole agent after it turned out that they were just local reseller.[2][3]

From the middle of 1990, Hi-Star Electronics became the sole agent of Sega in Southeast Asia and Gan & Beng Electronics had a showroom.[4] In addition to Mega Drive, Hi-Star also sold Game Gear.

In 1993, Wywy Group began distributing Sega products in this region. They appointed Dorema Distribution to sell Sega products[5](Sega Game Gear, Sega Mega Drive, Sega Mega CD, Multi Mega, Sega 32X all in PAL and NTSC Sega Nomad and Sega Saturn).

New Era from 2005-2019 was a distributor.[6].From 2016 to 2018 games were also sold by Play Interactive.

In 2010s, Sega created Sega Asia which handle regional releases of games,[7] but not physical distribution.

In 2018, Epicsoft Asia was appointed sole distributor of Sega games starting with Yakuza 6: The Song of Life, Shining Resonance Refrain, Valkyria Chronicles 4, Fist of the North Star and Virtual-On .[8] From 2019, they distributed Genesis Mini.[9]

In October 13, 2022, Sega established Sega Singapore for marketing purpose in Southeast Asia but Epicsoft will still remain as distributor.[10][11]
