Sega Mega Drive II was the most popular Sega console in Iran, that was widely available from mid-90s and sold until late 90s/early 2000s[1]. Due to the high prices of games, Video Game Clubs were popular. Players paid for hour of playing on several connected consoles like Mega Drive, PlayStation and Micro (Famicom clones). One of the most popular games for Sega consoles was the Mortal Kombat series[2]. Mega Drive clones and games appeared on the wave of popularity and became popular at one point due to their low price, many of which are still being sold today.
Some of the Iranian pirate producers, started releasing Mega Drive games for PlayStation 2, using PGen emulator. The games were sold in standard boxes, with official ESRA rating.
From the late 2000s, Red Entertainment Distribution was involved in the sale of Sega products.[3][4]
Sega Toys are distributed by NewBoy.[5]
