In the 70s Pakistan was one of the countries where Sega imported its game machines.[1]
Video games became popular in the region with the release of the Sega Mega Drive 2 thanks to a unknown distributor, although it was possible to buy consoles earlier (Atari 2600, Famiclones and Master System). Some of the most remembered games for this system in Pakistan are Street Fighter II, Mortal Kombat series, Sonic the Hedgehog, The Lion King, Aladdin, and Brian Lara Cricket.[2]Mega Drive was the most popular Sega console in this country, enjoying popularity until early 2000s, mainly becasue market was in one point flooded with cheaper clones and bootlegs of games that are still sold until this day.
From 2005 to 2012, Sega games were sub-distributed by New Era.[3][4] It's unknown when Sega products will resume distributing in that country.
