From Sega Retro

Sega Retro always needs improvement. This is a centralised (if unorganised) list of things to do. Primarily this involves making a page whenever you see a red link. Anyone is welcome to contribute. You may also edit this page as you see fit.

  • Many, MANY reports of new users unable to edit because of the spam filter. --SorachiJirachi (talk) 18:02, 10 January 2023 (EST)
  • Cache not refreshed on page save. --SorachiJirachi (talk) 18:02, 10 January 2023 (EST)
  • Thumbnails for big images can't be generated. Most LaserActive scans are breaking something. CartridgeCulture (talk) 00:35, 19 June 2022 (EDT)
  • Nested lists have extra blank lines. This can be fixed by removing the list-style-position: inside property on #mw-content-text ul (and then maybe adjusting the margin or padding on lists to compensate, though I think it looks fine as it is).
You could put a fix Mediawiki:Common.css but it would be better to fix this further up -Black Squirrel (talk) 17:55, 25 June 2023 (EDT)

Probably fixable

  • AS-1 developers/publishers/etc aren't being pulled by automated templates like CompanyHistoryAll. (see: Graphics Technologies) CartridgeCulture (talk) 20:34, 10 July 2023 (EDT)
  • The "handhelds" link in the "We cover everything/Games" section erroneously links to Consoles, not Handhelds. CartridgeCulture (talk) 00:35, 19 June 2022 (EDT)
  • References in the division= field of the Employment template aren't being displayed. CartridgeCulture (talk) 21:42, 16 January 2023 (EST)
  • The front page doesn't show all released games sometimes such as Shanghai II: Dragon's Eye being released today (01-11) but not showing up on the "Released on this day" field. JaxTH (talk) 09:30, 11 January 2023 (EST)
  • Do something with multiplatform Steam games like The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog having production credits which point to both Steam and Steam OS X. Correct name is macOS if necessary. CartridgeCulture (talk) 05:48, 25 July 2023 (EDT)
  • If multiple "image" fields are used for Template:InfoRow, the respective cell in the table isn't extended like it usually is for "screenshot" and "sprite" fields. --SorachiJirachi (talk) 15:20, 4 August 2023 (EDT)
  • The built-in variables of the cancelledstate= field of Template:UnreleasedBob aren't playing nice with references. CartridgeCulture (talk) 23:32, 14 September 2023 (EDT)
  • We need a way to un-italicize both the title= field in Bob templates, for non-game topics like programs, etc. Maybe a noitalics=yes? - CartridgeCulture (talk) 04:33, 15 September 2023 (EDT)
  • We need a way to de-italicize the title in the top of Omni templates, for non-game topics like programs, etc. Maybe a noitalics=yes? - CartridgeCulture (talk) 04:19, 21 September 2023 (EDT)
  • A lot of nav templates aren't spacing themselves properly, resulting in not having a space at its top (see the navbox on Castlevania: The Bloodletting). More than a handful of templates suffer from this, forcing References and navboxes uncomfortably close (other templates provide a single blank line of separation) - CartridgeCulture (talk) 04:33, 15 September 2023 (EDT)
  • The Quote template and Creditstable template also have spacing issues, resulting in a single extra blank line on its bottom (see the quote on Mega Bomberman: Special 8 Player Demo, or the credits on Virtua Hamster) EDIT: Lots more extra lines on other templates (just noticed it on the bottom of Template:MDBox). Perhaps we need a sweep of commonly-used templates for loose spaces, make sure everything's consistent. - CartridgeCulture (talk) 04:33, 15 September 2023 (EDT)
  • Need a way of doubling up medal/prize/kiddy ride games so they also appear as System C2/ST-V/discrete logic titles (or whatever). Not sure how to do this cleanly yet. -Black Squirrel (talk) 15:57, 12 August 2023 (EDT)

Ruten

I've got a lot less free time than I had, and I'm not able to keep up with this anymore. Ruten is a Taiwanese auction site which has all sorts of wacky gems, but if you don't grab the photos quickly the item can be bought and de-listed. It's not like eBay where a record sticks around for a while. This is where all the photos of multi-carts, bootlegs and weird peripherals come from. -Black Squirrel (talk) 15:10, 24 June 2015 (CDT)

To research

The Golden Age Arcade Historian

This mostly lines up with my own research (it looks like we dipped into several of the same secondary sources) but does differ from my own work on some things: I show parts of Standard Games (specifically its distribution network) sold off to Stern post-dissolution in 1949-1951, they briefly mention shell companies but don't go into many of them (Service Games Panama becoming COSI, SARL, that weird one out of the Boston area, Segasa, etc.), only a passing mention of Nesor-Rosen in Rosen Enterprises, good to know I'm not the only person utterly confused by Nihon Goraku Bussan Scarred Sun (talk) 19:15, 6 August 2015 (CDT)
